She was born the 1st of December, 1970 in New Hampshire. She was raised in the same Jewish family of four siblings. The theater company her mother started was a theatre business, while her father owned a clothing store. Silverman performed stand-up comedy when she was age 17 but it wasn't a great success. When she graduated of high school, in 1989 she was enrolled in New York University for one year.Although Silverman initially experienced success in her time on Saturday Night Live as a writer and an actor, she was fired after just 18 months. In the short stories she created the show, just one of them was performed as she was only given minor roles as an actor. In 1996, she was on The Larry Sanders Show, where she parodied his Saturday Night Live failure in the same episode. She was featured in three more episodes of the show before the show ended.
