Singer-songwriter John Denver touched millions of people and reached superstar status through his pop-folk songs based on folk, with a lot of them being set in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. grew up in Roswell New Mexico. He was enthralled by Colorado. He later settled in Aspen. Denver's national anthems to his adopted state have drawn many to Colorado. G. Brown the curator of Colorado Music Hall of Fame stated that John Denver was by far one of the most popular musicians who was a symbol of Colorado. In 2011 Denver was named the first Hall of Fame inductee. He is now the symbol of Colorado to people around the world. When I travel, you may meet people at opposite sides of the planet. For example an individual who is from New Zealand. And when someone asks you if you're from Colorado you will get "Oh John Denver!" Brown explained. Take Me Home Country Roads, co-written by Bill Danoff and Denver after his brief time as a folk musician and was his debut Top 10 solo hit. Danoff wrote the tune with the inspiration of Johnny Cash, but Denver discovered an early version of the song and realized it was going to be a top 10 hit. The song was recorded by the singer within a couple of days following a performance to the awe-inspiring crowd in Washington D.C.
